How I start my Australia journey

Make it stand out

Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.

To be honest, I had never considered studying abroad before. After the graduate entrance exam, I had a clear idea in my mind and contemplated a few paths:

  1. Lucky enough to get into the graduate school just by chance.

  2. Directly enter the workforce.

  3. Continue at National Changhua University of Education for another two years as a backup.

  4. Reapply for the National Cheng Kung University's Electrical Engineering program.

  5. If Taiwan doesn't work out for me, go abroad for studies.

The fifth option was a fleeting thought at the time, and it was initially considered the least likely choice.

Currently facing my biggest decision for my 22 years old life, after the announcement of the graduate exam results confirming failure, I went back and forth in my mind for weeks. At times, I thought National Changhua University of Education would be a good option, and at other times, I entertained the idea of reapplying for the National Cheng Kung University's Electrical Engineering program. Going abroad for studies seemed impossible, but I hadn't completely given up because I wanted to experience working abroad. I sought advice from the director at Chang Gung University and a senior who went to the USA directly after studying abroad. After exploring options in other countries, I decided I was more inclined towards exploring opportunities in Australia, following the recommendation of a friend of 4C about software development and a relatively friendly work visa situation.

After reaching a certain point in processing my admission to National Changhua University of Education's graduate school, one week I gathered the courage to approach a consultant. At that time, I was just testing the waters, but the consultant was very good and dedicated. I felt fortunate to have him introduce me to the overall environment and future job prospects. After the discussion, I hesitated for a while – should I really continue on this path? Should I spend money on myself? However, occasional fantasies about life abroad kept popping up in my mind, so I decided to give the application a try. Later, 4C's brother suggested applying to some other impressive universities besides the ones I initially chose. It made me realize that I am not an outstanding student, and my failure in the past was due to my lack of effort and excellence. :P

After being confirmed with COVID-19 during my military service and returning home, my overall mood was quite low. However, to submit the confirmation of application results as soon as possible, I continued discussing with the consultant. To my surprise, the evaluation period that was initially expected to be 1-2 months notified me of conditional admission in about a week, with a 35% tuition reduction. It was a good thing that happened to me since I started my military service. :D

Finally, when the acceptance letter arrived and I set foot through the gates of the University of Technology Sydney, I began to feel a bit afraid. After playing a few rounds of League of Legends and being encouraged by 4C, I thought, well, let's bravely go abroad. Although there are still English proficiency exams to take care of, I am still in Taiwan, and there is no guarantee that everything will go smoothly after going abroad. Nevertheless, it is a worthwhile event to document, recording the decision made at the crossroads of life.
